Out-of-school suspensions are limited to three school days by the Texas Education Code. Your child cannot be suspended out-of-school for longer than three school days. However, unlike out-of-school suspensions, in-school suspensions (ISS) are not limited. This means that your child’s principal can decide to send your child to ISS for three school days, 10 school days, or even 15 school days—there are no limits in the Texas Education Code. If you think this is unfair, contact your legislators and tell them to address this issue in the Texas Education Code.
