Can students videotape school police officers?

There is no Texas or Federal Law that says students cannot videotape officers in schools. However, there may be a local school policy regarding the use of cell phones or other electronic devices in the school that could lead to disciplinary action.  Make sure to check your Student Code of Conduct (available at your school and on your school and school district's websites) before using cell phones or other electronic devices to record incidents at school.

If a student decides to videotape an interaction between a police officer and someone else, they should be sure not to be in a position that is too close or that interferes with what the officer is doing.
